EPFL Drone Days 2019 - Rules
Aircraft
- Maximum size between rotors is 300mm
- Maximum size of propellers is 6 inches
- Maximum weight is 1kg including the battery
- Battery up to 6S1P allowed (25.5V)
- No carbon or metal propeller allowed
- Each model shall carry in a clearly visible FAI Sporting Licence ID number
- Maximum 3 aircrafts per pilot allowed
Control link
- Must be set to drop the aircraft when signal is lost
- Must activate in less than 1 second after the signal is lost
- The motor must stop within 3 seconds after failsafe activation
- Must be able to be manually activated by the pilot
- Power set to 25 mW
- Dynamic power disabled
- Frequency must be set to 868 MHz
- Transmitter must comply with EU regulation (25 mW, LBT)
Video transmitter
- TBS Unify Pro
- ImmersionRC Tramp
- FuriousFPV Stealth
- Maximum power is 25 mW
- Frequency is 5.8 GHz
- OSD with pilot name is mandatory
- VTX power output will be checked before the race
- You must be able to easily change the frequency (less than 30 seconds)
- Blasting the spectrum during the race will be sanctioned with direct elimination
Flight controller
- Crash recovery, launch control and flip over after crash are allowed
- Autonomous flight is forbidden
Pilot
- The pilot must have an insurance covering at least one million Swiss Francs
- The pilot must have a valid FAI licence or permission for 2019, https://droneracing.aero/
- Fairplay and respect is due to other pilots, staff and public attendees
- Helper/Spotter is allowed but optional
- Harassment is not tolerated during the event, any form of disrespectful behavior will be sanctioned by immediate disqualification
Safety
- Don’t arm the aircraft with propellers outside of the racing area
- Don’t fly above the safety net
- Don’t execute celebratory manoeuvers
- Don’t turn on the VTX during the race (pit mode is allowed at ~1mW)
- Don’t take off without authorization of the race director
- Disarm or land immediately when you hear the “Stop stop stop” words from the race director

→ Any pilot breaking one of those rules will be grounded
